Start Up Founder

Why work for someone else when you could start your own company — and own it?

Instead of a video interview for someone else's business, upload a two-minute pitch for the business you want to start. Angel investors swipe left or right on pitches, like a dating app. When an investor swipes right on yours, you can start a conversation about backing your idea.

On Seed27, you can seek a founder cheque: investment to give you the breathing room to work on your own company full time.

Build your company, not someone else's

Got an idea you keep coming back to? Give it a chance to become your day job. A founder cheque could give you the time and resources to get started, test your idea with real customers and build a business of your own.

Owning your company doesn't mean doing it alone. Seed27 helps you connect with angel investors who could back your vision. Any equity you offer and the ownership you retain are agreed directly with your investor.

What is a founder cheque?

A founder cheque is early investment in your startup, intended to help you go from working on an idea in your spare time to building it full time. Rather than a salary from Seed27, your own company receives the investment and pays your designated founder salary.

The aim is to raise £50,000 for a planned year of full-time focus: £30,000 allocated to your annual founder salary, paid by your startup, and £20,000 for business expenses. The investment amount, equity, salary and payment terms are agreed directly with your investor and your startup.

A year to turn your idea into something real

  • Develop your idea and explain the problem you want to solve.
  • Talk to potential customers and test demand for your solution.
  • Build and launch an initial product or service.
  • Manage your startup's budget and track its progress.
  • Work with your investors on milestones and updates agreed as part of your funding.

Think video interview. But pitch your own idea.

No need to explain why you want to join someone else's company. Tell investors about the company you want to start: what you'll build, who it helps, why it matters and why you're the person to make it happen.

Keep your video to two minutes. Explain how you would use a founder cheque and a year of full-time focus. If you've already tested your idea or found potential customers, share what you've learned. Be clear about what's real today and what you still need to prove.

This is a remote founder opportunity. Investor-specific eligibility and any geographic or legal restrictions need to be confirmed before an investment is agreed.

Pitch. Swipe. Connect.

  1. Join Seed27 and set up your founder profile.
  2. Upload a two-minute pitch video of the business you want to start and the founder cheque you are seeking.
  3. Angel investors browse pitches and swipe left or right, like a dating app. A right swipe opens a conversation with you.
  4. Get to know an interested investor, discuss your plans and, if you both want to move forward, complete due diligence and agree the investment terms directly.

Before you pitch

You are pitching for investment in your own business, not applying for employment at Seed27. Funding is not guaranteed, and a right swipe is an invitation to talk, not an investment offer. If funded, your own startup would employ you and pay the agreed salary from its funding. Seed27 connects founders and investors but is not a party to the investment agreement.
